AVR-USB is designed to work with family AVR ATMEL microcontrolers. Works with very popular software CodeVisionAVR and AvrOspII as AVR-Prog(910). This programmer communicates with PC via USB socket (both protocols 1.0 $ 2.0 are supported). No external power supply is needed. There are two ways of programming microcontrolers possible: via 10 pins standard ISP socket just like other programmers do and ... that's a very usefull feature - just placing microcontroler chip into one of nine sockets. As you can see the pictures below, programmer is designed with nine diffrent sockets: DIP8, DIP14, 2 x DIP20, DIP28, DIP40, PLCC44 so there is no need to buy additional adapters. Of course you say well, but where I insert my SMD chips? That's easy too. Just read/write the chip using 10 wires ribbon cable. Most boards are designed for programming on board having that standard 10 pins ISP AVR socket. (the 10 wires ribbon cable is also included in the set ... see picture down below).
What microcontroler chips are supported by this programmer?

Short about features AVR-USB made by Telwis :
DIP cases, full family sockets: DIP8, DIP14, DIP20, DIP28, DIP40, PLCC44,
programming SMD chips by means of ISP 10 pins socket (ATMEL standard) ,
communication and power supply from USB PC socket (USB 1.0 and 2.0 are supported),
microcontrolers 3,3V oraz 5V are supported,
there are drivers for Windows 98/ME/XP/WIN7/VISTA(32 & 64) and LINUX included,
works and tested with software CodeVisionAVR and AvrOspII_547,
Three LEDs indicate programmer's state :
red – power is on
yellow – RX, receiveing data is on
green – TX, transmitting data is on
In order to work with that programmer you need to install drivers. This is a typical procedure and all you need to do is to insert plug into your PC USB socket and wait. OS will detect new hardware and automatically install drivers. Installing procedure is fully described in user manual bundled on attached CD.
